What intriguing occurrences on Earth have scientists not yet been able to explain?

In a small Honduran village, people say it "rains fish."

In the Honduran hamlet of Yoro, locals observe a festival known as "Lluvia de Peces" or "Rain of Fish" once or twice a year.

The Rain of Fish is said to occur in May or June and happens when a particularly strong storm moves through the city.

What is left?

numerous fish.

Tons of live fish, flipping and flopping around on the pavement, allegedly left by the storm, not even any dead ones, mind you.

One of the few alleged cases of "raining animals" that scientists have actually seen take place is this one.

Of course, there are several hypotheses regarding why this happens, however they haven't been proven.

Simply put, the first explanation holds that the fish aren't really descending from the sky.

These kinds of heavy downpours have the potential to flood adjacent ponds, lakes, and rivers, driving fish out of their streams and into city streets.

Fish might be moved from rivers and onto streets by flash floods, which could then soon dry out, giving the impression that the fish simply dropped to the ground.

The second hypothesis, however, considers the possibility of fish dropping from the sky.

Waterspouts, a different natural occurrence, might be to blame for

Waterspouts form over bodies of water and resemble little tornadoes. Waterspouts can carry small animals, including fish, out of their habitat and into the air but do not really suction up water.

This suggests that the fish might be lifted into the air and transported far from their ponds before being dropped on the ground somewhere else.
