Roman Watermills

 An aqueduct from the Alpilles mountains delivered water to Arelate, a distance of approximately 25 km. At cutting-edge Barbegal, 12 km to the north of Arles, the water dropped precipitously. The Romans used the go with the drift to strength water wheels. There have been  parallel units of 8 huge water wheels in stacked sequences. Flow from every wheel became the wheel below, maximizing the electricity generated through the falling water. The wheels in flip drove generators for grinding flour and saws for reducing lumber and stone. There had been many such business webweb sites in the course of the Roman Empire, however Barbegal became one of the largest.
