Hama wheels
The Norias of Hama, also known as "Hama wheels" or "Hama Norias," are a set of impressive water wheels located in the city of Hama, Syria, situated along the Orontes River. These wheels utilize traditional water-raising technology and have been historically significant since the medieval period. It is believed that they were constructed in the 14th or 15th century,
although some suggest that they may be even older. Their main purpose was to lift water from the Orontes River and transport it to nearby aqueducts and irrigation systems to provide water for agricultural use and drinking water for the inhabitants of Hama.
