Do you know why the world's highest peak was named Everest?

Despite the fact that Sir George Everest had never set foot on the summit or seen it with his own eyes, the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, bears his name. He spent 25 years working as a surveyor in India, assisting the British in their efforts to map the entire continent. He later rose to the position of surveyor general of India in 1830. While the late surveyor once claimed that his name was "Eve-rest," with an emphasis on "Eve" and a long "e" sound, as it is said in his native Welsh language, the peak has also been mispronounced in English, with most people pronouncing it as "Ever-est."
